You Deleted the Photo. But Is It Actually Gone?
You take a photo.
Maybe it’s private.
Maybe it’s a screenshot containing:
- A password
- An OTP
- A bank transaction
- An address
- A private conversation
- An identity document
You delete it.
Then you empty:
Recently Deleted
You assume:
Gone.
But digital deletion is much more complicated than throwing a piece of paper into a fire.
Depending on the device, application, filesystem and backup configuration, copies or remnants of information can potentially exist in several places.
Your original file might disappear from your normal gallery.
But another copy could still exist in:
- A trash/recycle folder
- Cloud backups
- App caches
- Thumbnails
- Messaging attachments
- Device backups
- Synced computers
- Other people’s devices
- External storage
And sometimes:
The person you sent the file to still has it.
That’s the part people forget.
